In 2022 Austin picked up the paintbrush after a 20-year hiatus, finding inspiration in local rural scenes around Ithaca and the Cortland County hills of his youth.  He is particularly interested in playing with amplified light and color in his paintings, using expressionist techniques to strike at the heartwood of the natural world.
